it's over folks

I checked the index and it didn't mention Edóuard Siddon at all, did they even do any research for this?

[edit: clarifying since this thread is getting boosted like wildfire; this is a joke, it's actually good to see more opportunities for people to find a way out of the capitalist social media hellscape an on to our lil network here]

@technomancy Edóuard Siddon truly is the John Mastodon of Mastodon
@valrus @technomancy WAS THAT A MOTHERFUCKING JOHN MASTODON (TM) (2022) REFRENCE!?!?!?!?!?!?! الديك والكرة التعذيب مجانا 2014 لا فيروس

@technomancy what ...

... what does the book say about day three on Mastodon

@gnomon somehow I didn't think to look up bigfoot in the index, missed opportunity
@technomancy maybe AI generated? This books sometimes are so light on topics, that an AI could write them...
@technomancy I can't believe they just dusted my father's work under the rug like this!
@technomancy it's not even about being an admin?? it's just about how to use a website?
@technomancy why does the mastodon on the cover look so smooth?
@selfsame probably a reference to Smooth Duck, the popular Mastodon meme

@selfsame @technomancy Primary school joke.

Why are elephants large, grey and wrinkled? Because if they were small, white and smooth they'd be an Aspirin.

@NormanDunbar @selfsame @technomancy how do you know if there’s been an elephant in your fridge?
Footprints in the butter.
@technomancy Fully written with Homer Simpson in mind.
@lotographia @technomancy At university, back in dial-up days, another student asked me if they could go on the internet so they could sign up with an internet provider. They're a doctor now.
@technomancy ISBNs listed on libgen are 9781394193387, 2023930252, 9781394193363, 9781394193370 for anyone curious
Mastodon For Dummies: the most important book I've written. - Chris Minnick

What excites me most about Mastodon is that it feels like the World Wide Web I fell head-over-heels in love with in 1993. It's a community of people who are having conversations and sharing their interests and ideas in an advertising-free environment without having their actions monitored and tracked.

Chris Minnick

@fahru Nice page footer!

@technomancy

@ffeth not sure if it has been added since, or if you intentionally left it out, but there is a separate Mastodon link now below it.
Since it even still has a #GooglePlus (whose demise still makes me sad) link among the icons, I wonder if @chrisminnick perhaps can't easily update that part of the footer template for some reason?
@fahru @technomancy

@FiXato I can't tell if it was here where I shot the footer. I hadn't seen it for the least.

@chrisminnick @fahru @technomancy

@FiXato Ok I can tell from the cache!

@chrisminnick @fahru @technomancy

@ffeth ahh with that wide resolution I can understand why it didn't catch ypur attention on the opposite side of the other social media links 😅
@chrisminnick @fahru @technomancy
@FiXato @ffeth @fahru @technomancy Unfortunately, I haven't found a wordpress theme that handles Mastodon links correctly yet. Maybe a good project for someone. I did take down the Google Plus link, though 😂
@technomancy Is this real?

This guy said he’s the author and posted this pic of him with the book.

Attached: 2 images My wife and I went to Barnes and Noble in Brookfield, Wisconsin yesterday to get pictures of "Mastodon for Dummies." The staff person who helped us find the shelf had me sign the book. Afterwards she said she'd add an "Author signed" sticker to the cover. That was fun!

Fosstodon
@Deus @atomicpoet wow, that was only a week ago!
Go and give him a ‘Favorite/Like’ hug. There’s no better publicity for a product - or anything - than a ‘…for Dummies’ book! :)
@technomancy If that is real I want a copy. I've got a collection of "For Dummies" books.
@laser314 @technomancy I checked, it's listed as first edition, official publication date March 1, 2023.
@technomancy that's a very good portrait of John Mastodon.
@technomancy aaaaaaaaaah let the eternal september begin here, too!

@mirabilos @technomancy

I was going to make an “Eternal November” joke. Googled it first and stumbled on this:

https://www.eternalnovember.com

😂

Eternal November

@technomancy @ccunning why november?

@mirabilos @technomancy
I think November is considered the Start of the mass exodus of Twitter users to Mastodon.

Musk’s acquisition was Oct 28
First round of (non-executive) layoffs was Nov 4th

@ccunning @technomancy ah ok, so a local phenomenon
@mirabilos Not sure what you mean by ‘local’ in this context…

@ccunning well local to the Twitter→Fediverse move thing

Eternal September is because “every” university starts with new students every year in September, which is when they were unleashed at Usenet…

@technomancy For a short while I thought it was a book about living with actual mastodons
@technomancy i’m pretty sure I need a copy. Sorry, old Mastodon people who’ve been here forever. Those of us who hate the other media and have been trying to find something decent are confused. We need help. Little. Tiny. Words.

@Rosiel7 @technomancy I just read a blog post by one of the authors about why they wrote the book, they seem like genuine people!

"What excites me most about Mastodon is that it feels like the World Wide Web I fell head-over-heels in love with in 1993."

@syneryder @Rosiel7 @technomancy Thanks, Kohan! I try to be genuine people. If anyone has any questions about the book, AMA!
@technomancy All I can hear is Barry Manilow singing 🎵Looks like we made it../Oh babe we made it..🎵
@technomancy us dummies are doin just fine, it's the smarties that need instruction

@technomancy

What???

I used to think Wiley was a good publisher.

@technomancy @Gargron oh gosh does it mean we’re famous now?
@technomancy That's actually a good thing, isn't it? I'm all for tearing down gatekeeping mechanisms.
@LukasBrausch yes, I'm joking around but having broader visibility is a big deal and will help more people escape the capitalist social media hellscape

@technomancy psh, REAL idiots on mastodon don't need a single guidebook at all. It just comes naturally to us! Now we're gonna be overrun by fake, book-taught idiots :(

- signed, a concerned idiot.

@technomancy Is it written by AI?

@pim @technomancy Nope! It was written by me and @workingwriter, and I'm proud of it.

Here are my thoughts about AI writing and why you'll never see anything with my name on it that was even partially written by AI:

https://www.chrisminnick.com/2023/01/12/my-thoughts-on-chatgpt/

Okay, I'll give you my thoughts on ChatGPT - Chris Minnick

I've been getting some requests for my thoughts about OpenAI's ChatGPT, which is currently busy cranking out thousands of poorly-written articles about itself for publication by every news outlet in the world.

Chris Minnick
@chrisminnick Looks like it will be a helpful book and just looking at the cover helped me realize I'd been confusing mastodons and woolly mammoths.
