I'm gonna start posting quotes from #PromisesStrongerThanDarkness bc there are some lines in this book that I'm super proud of.

“I feel like when we first met, you were an optimist.”

“That was a long time ago.”

#PromisesStrongerThanDarkness

"Ignore them. They made these mistakes a long time ago, and we’ve got our own mistakes to make.”

#PromisesStrongerThanDarkness

"Throw together any random group of people and they'll call themselves ‘family,’ until they face a real test. Family is the people you can’t walk away from."
“It’s difficult to grieve when a friend dies, but it’s even harder to mourn for an enemy you killed. If you must take a life, it’s best to make space to hold a funeral, even if it’s only in your imagination.” #PromisesStrongerThanDarkness
“Elza used to say that becoming part of something bigger than yourself means that you need to be smaller. Now she sees the truth: she's only as big as what she can touch.” #PromisesStrongerThanDarkness
“Some gear inside her shaves its teeth when she tries to hope.” #PromisesStrongerThanDarkness
“Everybody lets you down, but that’s not the whole story. You stay friends because you make each other better.” Promises Stronger Than Darkness, coming April 11 from Tor Teen. #books #writing #yafantasy

"If I had a literal furnace inside me, I'd torch everything, all the time."

"You wouldn't. You'd get tired, and you wouldn't want to face the consequences. Trust me."

@charliejane Ha, I have a very soft character who accidentally starts fires, and his teenage niece who drives animals crazy.

"Huh, that's stupid. If I could light things on fire I wouldn't be scared of ANYTHING."

Brand felt a flutter of gratitude that the furious teenage mage staying under his roof had manifested her powers in any area other than that one. Victor, possessed of the most gentle soul he had ever encountered, was enough of a hazard.

@charliejane

I bought the first two, and pre-ordered the third, but I'm waiting till it drops before I start reading any of them. Patience isn't one of my strengths.

@charliejane My youngest son (21) says he's "too old" for YA now. But he agreed to give Victories a try -- we made a bet, winner buys brunch.

@sonomalass Ohhh I hope he likes it!

FWIW I think that book is for adults as well as teens...

@charliejane That’s what I told him. We had a good talk about what YA means, since I’m old enough to remember when that was not a separate classification. He grew up not reading most of the “standard” stuff, b/c his birth family weren’t readers.
