#sewing Hello! I’m a total newbie here fresh from the chaos of the bird site. I’m trying to get my bearings so here is an #introduction about me. I’m a home maker now that I’m #retired, I love #sewing and make some simpler apparel but also do a lot of #artquilts/#textileart. I’m a #lefty, #secular, I ride #Peloton and row on #Hydrow, I am a pizza geek and cook and bake a lot, and am childless by choice. I married my handsome prince 16 years ago and am living happily ever after 😃 ☮️ .
@threadhead wow! Look at that sewing studio. I’m here in my dining room ripping it up and having fun with #artquilts
@MaggieKS I think we all start off in our dining rooms. I happen to know that magnificent sewing can and has happened in a small closet, so space is not determinant 😃. Art can happen anywhere there is passion and curiosity. I hope you are enjoying your projects. This mixed media thread painting is my latest work. Most of it was done on a straight stitch machine.
@threadhead Thank you for your kind words. I had a large studio at one point, and really miss it, but have moved into smaller quarters. I’m having a ball with my crazy style of creating quilt tops, then “rearranging” them abstractly to suit my eye. It suits my crazy and random style. I really admire your disciplined work. So beautiful.
@MaggieKS I would so love to see some of your work! I love abstract designs and have done a few myself. If I had eight hands and four brains I’d get a lot more of my ideas executed! I have collected 9 machines over the years, most of which specialize in a particular modality. I’m working on some Sashiko stitching right now that I intend to cut up and glue to a wood backing for a mixed media wave I’m planning 🌊 and have not ventured this far out of the box before.
@threadhead Oh that will be amazing. Most of my work is still packed from my move but here’s what’s on the design wall now. It started as a giant courthouse steps.
@MaggieKS Oh wow! YOU are the one who is disciplined my friend! It takes so much tenacity to do what you’re doing! I am impressed! Can’t wait to see your end result!
@threadhead Thank you! Not my technique but my design. I’ll post the finished product. 😊
@threadhead PS some seem to get cut up multiple times but never get done. Haha. This one will!
@MaggieKS I TOTALLY get that! I just finished a semi-mixed media lion that I thread painted. I made the background by couching yarns and created all of the textiles/fibers for the grasses. Like most people I have other stuff to do besides sew, so he took me almost a month to complete. 16x18 ish.
@threadhead Wow. That’s incredible. He’s beautiful. I think I did one class using couching with chunky thread in the bobbin, loved it, and never did it again. Funny where our imagination wanders off to. Hmm that inspires me for some crows I want to do. Much better than appliqué.
@MaggieKS thank you; I am mulling a flamingo too. I have too much stuff in my head and not enough time! Crows are fascinating; I’d love to see what you come up with. There is a lady on TikTok who has a wild crow who visits her. That crow is brilliant. It asks to be brushed and puts shapes into holes that match the shapes with a child’s toy. I wish they could speak in a way we could understand.
