Clinical Rawlsian@the_megalopolis Almost nobody I know who has kids and works from home has the kids in the house when they're working. The kids are either at school or in pre-school or daycare. If they are at home, there's almost always another adult watching them. The only exceptions to this are sick days and snow days.
@the_megalopolis The idea that people who work from home are secretly watching their kids rather than doing work is a misogynist lie that is almost always leveled against women because women are still overwhelmingly the primary care providers for children.
@the_megalopolis That people would even think this is true is it an indictment of America's lack of support for parents and the ruinous costs of childcare.
In other wealthy countries with subsidized or free child care, it would be absolutely ludicrous to assert that somebody who was working from home wasn't doing their work and was secretly watching their children. Why would they keep their children home when they could put them in a high quality free or low-cost daycare?
