Malcolm X was assassinated 58 years ago today. This remains as one of my favorite pieces of wisdom he shared. And now, they're making it illegal to even claim the knife is there.

"If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there's no progress. If you pull it all the way out that's not progress. Progress is healing the wound that the blow made. And they haven't even pulled the knife out much less heal the wound. They won't even admit the knife is there." — Malcolm X

@QasimRashid This as applied to the WaPo piece on VMI today.
@QasimRashid it’s always seemed to me to just never plunge the knife in the first place.

@piratero @QasimRashid

Your humanity and decency is showing.

❤️❤️❤️

@InsufficientC8H11NO2 @QasimRashid you are both kind and graceful. Thank you for your kind words.
@QasimRashid forgiveness is much easier after the bad behavior stops. With this, the bad behavior has not stopped.
@jamesmarshall forgiveness isn't a part of the quote. It's not a part of the discussion. Where did that thought even come from?
@QasimRashid
There is progress being made on the issue, Malcolm X's daughter just held a press conference announcing that she will sue the NYPD, CIA and FBI in a wrongful death suit. I have no illusions that she will ever see any money, and I doubt she does either, but the case may shed some light on what happened and expose some truth that was hidden.

Daughter of Malcolm X to sue agencies for alleged role in slaying

Ilyasah Shabazz says that she plans to sue the NYPD and the FBI, among others, for $100m in a wrongful death lawsuit.

@QasimRashid what, in this scenario, would constitute as pulling the knife out in your opinion? What do we need to do or do better?
@JJG reparations are a minimum, but the list is quite long.

@QasimRashid That’s a difficult thing to implement without pissing everyone off it seems.

Cash? Land? Both? Does that mean a one time payment? If so, how much is fair? Does everyone get the same amount? Etc…

@JJG @QasimRashid yes, there are details to be worked out, which may be complicated. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. I think studying the issue to figure out what would work is a good start, as long as it leads to more than studies.
@QasimRashid The sad thing is that it's so relevant today. It's very discouraging.
@QasimRashid
He apparently to some was TOO great a communicator
I recognize MalcolmX wisdom as the real deal

@QasimRashid Another gem of his

"I gave the Jew credit for being among all other whites the most active, and the most vocal, financial, ‘leader’ and ‘liberal’ in the Negro civil rights movement. But at the same time I knew that the Jew played these roles for a very careful strategic reason: the more prejudice in America could be focused upon the Negro, then the more the white Gentiles’ prejudice would keep diverted off the Jew."

I guess he didn't mind the knife, so long as the medic was a Jew

@QasimRashid American mostly has no idea who its real heroes are.
@QasimRashid Knowledge preserves his ideas. Extremists want to stifle education. American Taliban. Fanatical morons.
@QasimRashid And we're still trying to get the majority to acknowledge there's even a knife. 🙄 There's definitely been some progress in raising awareness, but it feels like so little real progress in terms of doing anything to end white supremacy.
