I'm bloody torn on this one. On the one hand, I see the value in re-wording some works to ensure they are not reinforcing hateful stereotypes and can be enjoyed by future generations... but then there is the whole question of whether it is right to re-write the past or just teach it as wrong... not to mention unintended consequences:

The children’s author has had his works updated by his estate and publisher, who hired an inclusivity consulting group to suggest modern changes.

@jayjaymal Having really loved reading Dahl with my young kids (currently 7 and 9), we had lots of talks about how some ideas were not very nice, even if they were in a book.

@Brekekekiwi Yeah that was my approach too and it was a trigger for some great kōrero with my kids. I guess my concern is not all parents would do that ...

In some ways I can see a compromise would be to have an alternative version that is labelled as "based on" Dahl's book but on balance I'm not a fan of cancelling or rewriting the originals.

There is also this great point:

@jayjaymal
Ugh.
No one is coming away and taking books off your shelves.

The family, who, let's face it, didn't actually work for this money, simply wants to make sure they can sell more copies of books in today's market.

Blame capitalism.
