I love YA biographies. As a teacher, I tried to hook kids into a passion as it could fuel a love of reading, and biographies were a key part of that.

In November I saw this book at our library and checked it out. I read two chapters and realized what a treasure it was. I had to put it aside for a bit. Ignoring all the friendly reminders to to return it, I finally got back to it this weekend. It is amazing.

Yesterday, I realized it was written by @Teri_Kanefield.

Another excellent YA biography!

It not only detailed the strategy Thurgood Marshall used to chip away at segregation, but it also detailed how Marshall's approach to achieving civil rights differed from Martin Luther King Jr.

Looking forward to having my oldest read this one. He just finished the one on FDR, and Abraham Lincoln is accompanying us on a camping trip.

I've had this great book which is also about Brown v. Board of Education.

I remember, back in the anti-Racism, anti-War '60, being of the mind that MLK was the clear leader, and Thurgood Marshall was closer to the "Uncle Tom" side of things. Teri Kanefield's YA biography showed me how wrong we were, back then.

(I also now know that young, privileged, White kids were in no position to judge.)

@Hey_Beth @Teri_Kanefield I still remember my book report about Mr. Jackson.

@Hey_Beth

I looked up the book on my libby app, but it's not available to borrow in our county library. I saw many others by her that looked equally interesting. I'm now on a mission to track some down.

Thanks for posting - I follow @Teri_Kanefield and am a big fan.
Nice to know these books exist!

While the Redwall series isn't really Young Adult fiction, slighly younger, I still enjoy it as an adult.

The fact is, great fiction is great fiction, regardless of the intended audience.

I’m guessing it’s more diplomatic than Alexis de Tocqueville!

@Hey_Beth
There’s good reason she has a Wikipedia article (namely me).

Can't wait for J.D. Vance's new semi-fictional autobiography to be released.
