@onecreativecat Blocking is still something I need to get better at. I guess as the ends will be attached (or sewn together) it probably doesn't matter but for scarves I was definitely trying to stop the scarf turning into a 'tube' (which they always seem to) so I guess purl edges might help with that)

It's one reason I always do scarves in the round. It takes more yarn but you get a nice thick scarf with no curling. And it's easier to just mindlessly knit round and round.
@AKK_1967 I'm intrigued by the concept of knitting scarves in the round now. How do you mean? On round needles but knitting flat? This sounds like an interesting idea...!

It's just knitting a long tube. Knitting stockinette in the round is great for mindless knitting, nothing but knit stitches in a continuous loop means you don't have to pay attention. It's great for meetings or movies with subtitles. And no curling. I just put a few tassels on the end to close the tube.
