Vladimir Putin is an anti-democratic, genocidal killer who is not only causing death and destruction in Ukraine, he’s destroying the future of Russia and Russians. Tell me again why extremist Republicans think this is a man to admire.

@StevenBeschloss
I wish I could tell you. My best guess is that the information age, cable tv and social media are to blame, plus human weakness.

I see years of Fox media has misshapen GOP thought. So much so that conservatives didn't recognize more targeted Russian manipulation via social media that turned hyper-political into fascism.

At the beginning of it all I'm sure GOP politicians saw the Fox manipulation, but didn't call it out because it benefitted them.

Just my amateur thought.

@StevenBeschloss because he’s a powerful dictator and Republicans despise democracy. Kinda falls right in line.
@StevenBeschloss Is this a tautology, or is there a better word for “the answer lies in the question” ??
@StevenBeschloss but you just listed the reasons.
@StevenBeschloss republicans are obsessed with being “right, even when they are wrong.” That is, whatever the conventional wisdom is, they want to contradict it and “be right.” Somehow, proven right. They go through life like the scene in Indiana Jones where he is confronted by a talented wordsmith who flashes several complicated moves to impress and terrify, when Jones just takes out a gun and shoots him. They want to humiliate “the experts” and “the emotional left.”

@StevenBeschloss but it’s how they see themselves, not necessarily how we see them.
A lot of what they do can be translated through this prism into understanding.

Their entire approach to COVID fits this paradigm.

@StevenBeschloss
Because Donald Trump is an antidemocratic, genocidal would-be killer who has not only caused death and destruction in Ukraine, he's destroying the future of America and Americans.

They're not just cut from the same cloth; they have the same silkscreening.

@StevenBeschloss

They've been brainwashed all their lives (by their churches and the Christian-based culture) to believe they are The Chosen. They believe they are superior, as do Putin and his ilk. To maintain one's Chosen or Superior status, other types (races, creeds, intellectuals, etc.) must be demonized.

@StevenBeschloss Because Putin paid them
@KeithX @StevenBeschloss ,
Keith, you are correct. Also, money can help buy Power.
@StevenBeschloss I would also like to know why someone could possibly admire Putin.
@StevenBeschloss Something something own the libs
@StevenBeschloss Because they are fascists.
@StevenBeschloss they’re on his payroll
@StevenBeschloss Extremist Republicans are the worst people imaginable, driven by impulses most recognizable a thousand years ago.
@StevenBeschloss , Extremist Republicans admire not Putin, but the money he pays them.
@StevenBeschloss Putin is also known for his attempts to eff rats in their a's, Pompeo, then Secretary of State, stated he had enormous respect for Putin, probably because Putin succeeded in effing several dozens rats a day, while Pompeo struggled with even one a week, partly because he was a fatso, and a stinking one.
@StevenBeschloss they’re all on the same side: fascists.
@StevenBeschloss Steven, your first sentence explains perfectly why they admire him.
@StevenBeschloss Cause they want to do the same here.

@StevenBeschloss #republicans agree with their oligarchs who want autocracies throughout the world ? Putin wants to destroy America & so do plutocrats? Fox tells them not to trust any news but theirs, 24/7 x 30 yrs & it’s run by oligarchs? My guesses.

#putin #murdoch #gop #RepublicansRTraitors #autocrats #oligarchs #greed #warprofiteers

@StevenBeschloss

I suspect it comes down to the belief that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," coupled with decades of self-inflicted echo-chamber brainwashing. Putin's committed to destroying the same things Trump was, the same things that the far right has been trying to uproot and burn for how long now? And since they bent the knee to Trump, who bent *his* knee to Putin ...

I would love to be proven wrong.
