RT @mikepmoffatt:

I don't think people realize how big #SouthernOntario's #population is. So here's a reference. #Toronto & the surrounding area have a population the size of Alberta & BC... combined.

Heading east, we can also incorporate Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

N. Ontario has a nearly identical population to Newfoundland + the territories. This works because #Ontario’s population (15.1) is almost exactly that to the rest of #Canada, excluding Quebec. #Maps #Geography

I think of it as "One in ten Canadians lives in the GTA"

#southernontario #population #toronto #ontario #canada #maps #geography

@teledyn it's closer to 1 in 5. The GTA has a population of ~7 million people out of 38 million Canadians.

@citytechie

Oh, ok, so one in ten lives in Toronto proper? I keep forgetting the explosion happening where ever the Zum goes 😅

@teledyn About 1 in 12. The last census had Toronto proper at just under 2.8 million. Because of housing prices, it's not growing very fast (relative to the rest of the region) and even losing younger people and young families to the surrounding regions.

@citytechie @mikepmoffatt

Canada is second world wide in geographical area, but 39th in population. Makes for an interesting population density map.
