This week, more than 70 Republicans in Congress proposed permanently extending the Trump tax cuts. The bill would add an estimated $3 trillion to the deficit.

Don't be fooled. Republicans in Congress don't care about the deficit. They want tax cuts for their wealthy donors.

@rbreich Tax cuts for the rich. Blame the Democrats for the resulting deficit. Hold the country hostage to the debt ceiling. Repeat as needed.
@rbreich The only thing these politicians care about is the next election and the best way to fund those elections is cutting taxes for their rich donors. As long as elections are funded by the rich we will never have true representation.
@rbreich but how are we going to pay for it?
@davidmschell @rbreich well according to WSJ we should all skip breakfast in order to save money. Perhaps the money we save from not eating will help?
@rbreich not caring about budget deficits is good.

@rbreich They want to revisit Medicare and Social Security every 5 years but make Trump tax cuts permanent.

Grandma can keep working to keep the ultra rich happy.

@rbreich Those aren't tax cuts, those are regulation cuts. Those are giveaways and sub rosa subsidies. Those are thefts.
@rbreich the president won’t pass any Republican led, bullshit legislation.
They could just as easily pass anti gay laws; laws to make every American be required to carry a gun; laws to bring prayer into a schools again
Those Republican EFFwits won’t be able to do shit. All they’re doing is giving “the base” a blowjob. It’s cheaper than real sex. It feels great, but nothing ever happens.
@rbreich how are they supposed to enact the tax cuts if they won’t support raising the debt ceiling to allow them to be paid for?
@twitterreject @rbreich I'm sure if they knew they could get those cuts permanently t they would lift the ceiling. It's all theater. They know they can't make those cuts permanent with the senate in dems hands. it's all theater so they can look like they are appeasing thier corporate overlords.
@bluntmannnnn @rbreich I don’t know who is more frustrating, the gop politicians who are determined to make the worst decisions in every situation or their voters. They know their representatives are making bad decisions that hurt us but they are “owning the libs” so it doesn’t matter the consequences for the country
@twitterreject @rbreich I realllllly don't get it at all. The Maga base are all broke rednecks. I can understand millionaees supporting the gop but like
.....ppl who are on medicaid and food stamps and get govt assistance still want to vote for this guy its infuriating. It's like their lives suck so they want to put that pain on everyone. What's happening is a disgrace and we need massive changes if we are not to get swallowed by the machine
@bluntmannnnn @rbreich the only thing republicans are right about is how stupid their voters are. The politicians get them to focus on social issues and blame minorities for their problems. I agree 100% though. It’s so frustrating. And those voters are incredibly gullible and so easily manipulated. But they have right wing media on 24/7 so they don’t start to think. This all stems back to making the south stay during civil war. They’ve been spreading their stupidity & hatred ever since
@rbreich
Republicans push the Overton as far right as they can. Democrats pull it back by 1/3rd, entrench the other 2/3rds, and threaten their base with the loss of the last 3rd.
It seems very formulaic to me.
It's impossible to move forward when leadership plays games to keep you constantly fighting for what little you have.
@Npars01

@noyes @rbreich

I don't agree.

Democrats are flawed, like any political party, but at least they are forward looking, want to preserve civil rights, want people to vote, and are accelerating the transition away from oil.

@noyes @rbreich

The Overton Window isn't justification to do nothing about an anti-democracy movement funded by the richest people on the planet.

300 years ago, free PoC was considered "radical".

100 years ago women voting was called "the end of the American family"

50 years ago same-sex marriage was labeled "perversion"

10 years ago people objecting to sexual abuse on the job was " feminism going too far"

5 years ago, PoC being shot by police wasn't "newsworthy"

@rbreich and Joe Biden wants to pay pensions of Ukrainians with American tax payer dollars. How's that any better?

@rbreich

How much money do the rich need??? It's hoarding, plain & simple. I wish our society would stop admiring this pathology.

@rbreich To be fair, it’s been a long time since I heard a Republican claim that they cared about deficits.
@rbreich Power and Money, the two words that are of any consequence to any Republican!!!!
@rbreich are the cuts for the rest of us going to remain gone? So only the rich people cuts stick around?
@rbreich Is someone really a “donor” when there is such a clear quid pro quo? Republicans are pretty transparent that they are for sale, and not shy about the lack of ethical boundaries.
