Toute la partie sur les années 30 est fascinante notamment sur l'aveuglement de Chamberlain, à qui Churchill reconnaît une vision et de la droiture, semblant contester l'explication par la lâcheté qui lui est communément attribuée. Tous ces gens semblent sincèrement n'avoir pas pu croire que Hitler voulait la guerre et qu'aucun compromis ne l'apaiserait.
