So many newspapers write articles about how "electric cars have worse mileage during winter" ... well, yes they do... but do you know what also has worse mileage during winter? Petrol cars.

@baekdal I think one of the issues are that people buy an electric car that can "just" handle their daily need - while petrol/diesel cars handle the need a few times over.

Tesla SR+ driver here. We also have a diesel. The Tesla, in the most optimistic conditions, will get about 300km actual range. The diesel does over 1000.

During winter time, the Tesla drops to about 200km. I'm sure the diesel does something similar - it's simply never noticed :)

@troed Yeah. It’s extremely rare that people need to drive that far, though. I just feel this is a topic that newspapers use to downplay electric cars.

@oneman @baekdal it’s not that much with EVs if they have heat pumps either. Maybe 20% in the kind of cold weather we get in the U.K.
