Norfolk Southern:

-Helped kill a safety rule to upgrade outdated braking systems

-Fought off a shareholder initiative to mitigate risks of transporting hazardous materials

-Cut thousands of employees despite the safety risks of understaffing

Atrocious corporate greed.

@rbreich spot on. We’ve seen much commentary about Erdogan signing off building regulation exceptions, yet those same people fail to recognise lobbying to prevent safety legislation across a wide range of areas is a similar behaviour.
@rbreich throw the book at them for gross negligence.
@rbreich Welcome to America. Greed is good. Ask any corporate board room.
@rbreich Atrocious…and this will just keep getting worse under neoliberal capitalism.
@rbreich And they let the actual rails get in pretty bad shape too.
@rbreich Can you imagine being the chief PR officer for a company like that?

@rbreich

It's not just brakes, it's track maintenance, safety rules and regulations.

@rbreich And they also dumped and burned more chemical in stead of pumping the chemical off into another safe car or truck. Screw the environment and town.
@rbreich
The Norfolk Southern rail company needs to be sued out of existence.
@rbreich
All I read is that some Norfolk Southern train people need to go to prison.
@rbreich, big rail needs to have the rig pulled out from under them. On top of having been allowed to do whatever they want, for decades at least, they’re also the biggest hurdle to having a decent, modern, passenger system in the US. This needs to stop.
