Ever have one of those moments where you're in a conversation or meeting and you say something and you're like "Wow that was actually really smart". I can't tell if it's #ImposterSyndrome or #narcissim.

Like on one hand, it's kind of narcissistic to be so enveloped with one's self to be like "Oh hey listen to how smart I sound".

On the other, the fact that it's such a surprise and feels out of the ordinary suggests a level of imposter syndrome.

Does this make me an narcissistic imposter?

@alyssam_infosec

That's literally happening to me rn in a work discussion as we speak lol

Also yes, I have Imposter Syndrome over having Imposter Syndrome all the damn time ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

@alyssam_infosec Usually that means I'm cracking a good pun/joke ;).

At least one which amuses me (I'm easily amused...)

@alyssam_infosec and it's usually a tech/nerd joke, which illustrates that I'm paying attention and know enough about the topic to be able to make a tech joke about it ;)
@alyssam_infosec if it was really narcissistic you wouldnโ€™t worry itโ€™s narcissistic ๐Ÿ˜›
@alyssam_infosec The frequency of moments of that kind is a key indicator of narcissistic compromise
@alyssam_infosec If you want to go a step further, listen back to a Zoom recording of the meeting a few weeks later and surprise yourself by confirming not only how smart you are, but how confident and assertive you were in voicing your smart opinion. I may have recently experienced such surprise. ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ˜‚
@alyssam_infosec I think it just makes you normal, as boring as that is.
@alyssam_infosec It's like a pro athlete making an amazing play. They (and we) are expected to be good, but sometimes they (and we) just nail it.
@alyssam_infosec Happens to me a lot with emails. Iโ€™ll revisit a thread after a long span of time and often sit there going, โ€œMan, that was a really smart perspective / argument.โ€ Itโ€™s made worse because my memory is crap, and I legitimately feel like Iโ€™m reading something for the first time, yet Iโ€™m the author.
@alyssam_infosec Sure... ?!?!? ๐Ÿ‘€ lol ๐Ÿ˜†
@alyssam_infosec no, i see that as you continuing to add value to your role. Why would it be bad to contribute something smart?
