The US has seen 21,378 #COVID19 deaths already in 2023, per the CDC.

That is 7x more than were killed on 9/11.

It's more than the number of gun homicides in all of 2020: 19,384

It's almost as much as the gun suicides in 2020: 24,292. We'll surpass that next week.

In just six weeks, COVID has caused half the number of deaths as caused by traffic fatalities in an entire year: 42,915 per the NHTSA

Tell me again how COVID is “over” and those in masks are unnecessarily fearful.

#COVIDIsNotOver

@augieray until this is covered on the regular news, no one will care. We’ve become profoundly callous.
@augieray actually, maybe not even then. I don’t know what to do with people who truly do not give enough of a shit about others to even consider inconveniencing themselves.
@augieray Yet 60% of low wages workers still don’t have a single paid sick day.
These “essential workers” often have lots of public contact and little energy to focus on anything other than making ends meet.
A few free home #covid tests isn’t a rational public health policy, it’s a cynical sociopathic joke
@augieray Australia mid Feb already has more Covid deaths in 2023 than yearly flu deaths - definately not just the flu.
@augieray covid is indeed 'over', but it's kept going by idiots in power to further their narrative of oppression.
@arnandegans I have no idea what that means. It isn't over. People in power could do more to prevent, but it's kept going by the idiots next to us on trains, buses, concerts and conferences who won't get vaccinated or won't wear a mask. If idiots in power wanted to oppress us with COVID, they'd reinstitute lockdowns, not ignore it.
@augieray there's no covid where i live, and practically there hasn't been for almost a year. I hear that from many people I chat with and most are not in western countries. So yes it's over for many people - especially those not caught up in western countries 😁
That said, a few annoyances linger and we still have to wear a mask in some shops and public buildings. But other than that... Nothing.

@arnandegans You live in Mexico, I believe. Yes, there is still COVID there. The two worse surges of the pandemic have been in the last 13 months in Mexico. The fatality rate is lower than is has been, but Long COVID remains a risk.

I used to pay attention to news about covid and take it serious from other countries too... Until I started talking to people from those places and found out another truth. But you do you.
