@ivory What does this mean?

“Support for Mastodon server language translation services (if your server has them)”

@rob Mastodon has the capability to enable server-side translations. Admin would have to configure it: https://write.as/sweetmeat/how-to-activate-the-mastodon-v4-deepl-api-text-translation-service

@ivory Yes, I apparently have that working on my personal instance (see screenshots), but how does this work in Ivory?

And additionally, is it currently possible to set the language of a post, or is that still on your roadmap?

@rob You just have to hit the translate option (in the gear button of a post) and it should use it. Setting languages for posts will come when we redesign the compose view.
@ivory I don’t see a translate option… (or did I misunderstand what the gear button of a post is?)
@rob Probably won't see it on your own post?
@ivory Would you be so kind to reply something in a different language so that we can test this?
@rob Just go to the federated timeline and look for posts in other languages.

@ivory @rob I had already been trying that, but could not find such a post so far. Ironically a reblog of @MonaApp today provided the test case… It works!

What defines the target language?

On the web (instance) it is English (the configured interface language?), but in Ivory (App) it’s my native language (language set on iPhone?).

@rob should be based on your setting in the instance website.
@ivory Experimented a bit: Ivory seems to (indeed) translate to the preferred language in the iOS Settings (which totally makes sense).
@rob @ivory translation seems to work, but now it’s next to report post option, almost reported a post twice now when trying to translate 🤦‍♂️
