Here’s one for @vwdasher - the next link in the Erich Ledwinka/Steyr story. The Steyr-Puch Haflinger, like the later Pinzgauer, was one of the most capable off-road vehicles of its time. The design echoed a number of Tatra features such as swing axles, a backbone chassis and an air-cooled engine - in this case shared with the 650 TR 2 featured yesterday. @davidwilkins @vwdasher Look at that! I wonder if mine was painted in a sort of mimic of that. He's been hand painted with god knows what paint. Still haven't found the original colour on him yet.
@vwdasher @vwdasher Is it possibly an ex-military one? Lots of online sources say the Australian army used them?
@davidwilkins @vwdasher entirely possible! Many were used by ADF. Approximately 800 were built here and used by farmers so who knows. Will continue peering at the vehicle, see if any other layers show themselves. He doesn't have his original engine, we know that much now.
@vwdasher @vwdasher Interesting - will be interested to see your progress if you post about it!
@davidwilkins @vwdasher Absolutely! It's a fun voyage of discovery. Amazingly there are companies selling Haf parts online, so just nutting out what I need.
@vwdasher @vwdasher I’ll keep an eye out! BTW, I’m guessing you’ve almost certainly discovered this already but I spent an hour or so absorbed in this fascinating site yesterday. http://tdc.haflinger-4wd.com/index.php

Steyr Puch Haflinger Types, Details and Changes

@davidwilkins @vwdasher Oh yes! Amazing that there's these resources out there. Ours is a tropical model, and missing some plumbing related to that. More things for the To Do list.
@vwdasher @vwdasher I’ll watch with interest!
@davidwilkins @vwdasher the oil is draining out of him right now, tomorrow we put the right amount in and try another test run. We'll be taking him to a commercial vehicle show this weekend, because why not!
