Honestly, I'm sad this never caught on - judging by the IPv6 situation, we *really* need to think about future-proofing as early as possible, and we're already more than 10% of the way to filling up the entire Unicode code-point range. How are we ever going to encode all the alien writing systems after we make first contact?

And just *think* about all the emoji crimes we could potentially commit...
