Just rewatched Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973) with a commentary track by @suspirialex that I deeply recommend.

One of my Top 10 Swedish films for sure.

A ★★★★½ review of Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973)

This is a raw masterpiece, a film I would place in my top 10 favorite Swedish films. Even though it is full of "buts". For starters: it's not a movie for everybody. Rape-revenge films isn't for everybody. No movie is for everybody (except maybe Galaxy Quest?). An exploitation film, yes, but it doesn't take any shortcuts, it makes choices other rape-revenge films wouldn't do which might've been more right for story structure reasons but been much more... stupid. Instead it is much more nuanced than it really have to be. For instance, the way they use the male AND female

@JanneFantastic @suspirialex Saw this movie recently. Very memorable watch and very raw. Also enjoyed the documentary that #VinegarSyndrom made.
@runeranch @suspirialex Just watched it! Really good and informative. I've heard stories about the film pretty much my whole life, have friends who interviewed Christina Lindberg about it, heard so many rumors - so it was nice to see a definitive version being told about it.
@JanneFantastic @suspirialex That sure is interesting - I didn't know anything about it before its Blu-ray release. Is it well-known in Swedish film circles today, knowing it was very controversial back then?

@runeranch @suspirialex I would say it is mostly known for the controversies than as a film. Tarantino sure helped when he praised her (as seen in the documentary).

I know it was HATED back then just for being a rape-revenge film... for the same reasons they love The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo today. Glad that Alexandra Heller-Nicholas brings that up in her commentary track.
