Hmmm, the #Golang #telemetry #spyware program is inconvenient.

I actually do rely on and use some #Golang software like #gocryptfs and I don't feel like improvising myself as a cryptosystem programmer. I'm no such thing.

#Prometheus is also an affected part of my stack. Bother.

@lispi314 I distinguish: As long as I can take advantage of Google’s #Golang tools, in particular, as long as I can switch off the annoying parts, I continue to use them.

But I am done with the Go language team. I quite admired them until three days ago, now I hope that somebody forks and founds a LibreGo.

@bronger That is true. For now there's #GCCGo which unfortunately lags behind, but I still think it's a sign of an ecosystem with ailing health.

For now I simply cannot replace those programs so I can only remain vigilant that nothing unwanted sneaks in despite demonstrated intent to have such.

@lispi314 GCCGo does not play a role really in Go’s ecosystem, which is very healthy. If you accept Google being in charge, that is.

I don’t know Go’s licence but a fork may just switch off all bad things, and merged the upstream daily. So it needn’t be much work.

Or, all important distros switch off Go’s phoning home by default.
