A forest cover map of Canada. I rather like how this turned out.

#rayshader adventures, an #rstats tale

@terence

@aurynn

Cool but misleading. A high proportion of that big vertical rectangle by the Pacific has been clear-cut. When you fly over it, it's shocking, brutal.

@timbray @terence 😞 😞 😞 I'm saddened to hear that.

My wife asked about the gap in Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba and I explained about the land being the old inland sea and good for farming ... but it really sucks that it's so obviously clearcut

@aurynn

It turns out that the Prairies’ natural state is grassland, trees only found in river valleys and foothills.

A pleasing amount of prairie is being re-wilded. People say the Prairies are boring but that's wrong, they're beautiful.

@terence

@timbray I'm an Alberta girl and I do miss the Prairies.

Less miss the bigotry though.

@terence

@aurynn @timbray @terence so the tree cover is basically this person's beard?

@Br3nda @aurynn @terence

Heh I also have a short beard (that I put some work into shaping) but no moustache. But it’s some decades since my skin was that fresh…

@aurynn @terence

Born in Edmonton myself, relatives in Calgary. Tories probably getting voted out next election.

@terence makes me think of the arrogant worms song

@terence I'm in love with this! Do you have a public repo of your code at all? I'm so curious about how this was done in rayshader
