@AimeeMaroux I was taught that the giant fennel was sacred yto Hephaestos, possible connected via fire thanks to Prometheus.
Ares, though, yeah.. Modern pagans sometimes attribute thorny or capsaicin-bearing plants to him. The closest otherwise I've seen is the Peony, due to its namesake healing his injuries.

I have seen thistle and other thorny plants from modern pagans as well but nothing from ancient texts. It's hard enough finding out if the boar is really one of his sacred animals or just a modern association.
