@johnvoorhees @viticci I have been using Footpath for years to map out workout routes (running/walking/hiking/biking) *before* I go out, particuarly when I’m away from home (conferences, vacation, etc.). That way I can explore but also know I won’t end up so far away that it will be physically difficult to get home. Toggling between snapping to streets and freehand, while making sure I figure out routes that allow me to hit locations I want to visit while I’m out, has been amazing. Great app!
@namdlab @johnvoorhees @viticci do you guys know a good app just for tracking outdoor walks and to analyze the tracks afterwards, preferably with nice and detailed background maps?
@aboutgrau @johnvoorhees @viticci I use AllTrails to track hikes, which may be what you’re looking for. A lot of my other historical workout data is in RunKeeper, although once I got an Apple Watch a few years back I switched from Runkeeper to Apple Workouts. I also use RunGap to migrate my workout data between apps (primarily from Apple Workouts to Runkeeper).
@namdlab Have you ever looked at Tempo? It’s excellent for runners too. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tempo-for-runners/id1106746589

App Store
@johnvoorhees I must have, because I get the download icon in the App Store instead of the Get button, but I don’t remember it. I’ll check it out again – thanks!
@namdlab @johnvoorhees @viticci thanks for your recommendations! what makes you choose alltrails over komoot, gaia or outdooractive? all of them seem to be community driven (which i would prefer not to have, i‘d rather save my tracks on my device only). what i really want is not so much a track discovery tool, but more of a logging tool. so far i use the trails app http://trails.io/en but sadly it’s no longer supported and the vector maps feature doesn’t work anymore
Trails · Your Outdoor GPS Tracker and Logbook for iPhone & Apple Watch

Reliable and accurate GPS recording app. Find your way with offline maps. Import routes and waypoints. Powerful track analysis, editing and GPX import/export.

@aboutgrau @johnvoorhees @viticci I chose AllTrails years ago because some friends use it and suggested it. It works great for me for the relatively infrequent times I need it, so it wasn’t worth it for me to survey the field beyond that.
@namdlab @johnvoorhees @viticci i guess the right app for me is not yet invented here ;)
