I just finished Fairy Tale by #StephenKing. What a slog! Took me weeks to summon the energy to get through it. I absolutely love his books usually, but this one was a real effort. It started off great with characters you could really care for, but took a bit of a turn after a couple of hundred pages introducing multiple characters I really couldn’t care less about. Interested to hear others’ thoughts.
@paulpap I have maybe about 50 pages left of this to read. I’m loving it! But it’s quite different from his other work so can understand some probably not going for it.
@CinemaParrotDisco I think my problem is I’m just not that big a fan of fantasy. Some of it is great (big fan of VE Schwab) but Fairy Tale just doesn’t do it for me. I much prefer King’s stories set in the “real”world, like the Mr Mercedes books, 11/22/63, or Joyland.
@paulpap I do prefer King’s horror, especially the supernatural stuff. I avoided The Eyes Of The Dragon for years even though it’s one of very few King books I’d not read but I read it last year & loved it. Fairy Tale not quite as good as that one but still thoroughly enjoyed it. Do think it lost its way when it got to him being imprisoned & I was missing it being just him & the dog but the additional characters grew on me too.
