@themarkup I've ditched the bird site. I mean, I downloaded all my account data (you know, for when I need to create a Best Of shitpost compilation on short notice) first. But my account is gone.

The few times since November that I've poked my head back over there (you know when Aunt Marge on Facebook posts a link to a tweet) its been awful. Its all *HATE ANGRY BLAMEFEST MADNESS IMMIGRANTS NAZIS SPACE FLORIDA LASERS* now. The signal to noise ratio was never good, but now its nonexistant.

@themarkup I mean, I still spend a considerable amount of time on Reddit, where - like Mastodon you have more control over what channels and groups/communities you can participate in.. but I find more and more of late Im spending more time here - it dpends on what mood Im in. If I want to consume some targeted subject-specific content, thats REddit. I know what sub to poke into for puppies or people asking randos whether they should break up (A: if you're asking on Reddit the answer is prob yes)

@themarkup But if I want a general stream of consciousness of the internet, what are people talking about, whats the *zeitgeist* of the day... Mastodon is quickly taking over that niche.

Like the whole HogwartsLegacy controversy or whatever it was yesterday.

And I've had way more meaningful interactions and learned a lot more interesting things here in 3 months than in years on birdshite.
