History is a GiftAlice Walker was born #OTD in 1944. Her most popular novel, “The Color Purple”, won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, and was turned into a movie. She refused to publish the book in Israel, or show the movie in apartheid South Africa, because of those countries’ treatment of Palestinians and Black people. She has also visited Gaza to support the Palestinian cause.
