@rbreich Can't watch without paying. But FWIW, I was chatting with someone here on Mastodon about that. Her thoughts were this was mostly about the economy and inflation. And, I could see her point. Americans tend to always emphasize the economy. And we know this because in every poll over the past umpteen elections, people say they are voting on the economy. What was different in the most recent election was that that wasn't always the case. A massive number of people were prioritizing other issues, abortion for example, over the economy. My understanding is that rarely ever happens. TBS, for most Americans it's about their pocketbooks, their income vs. their expenses. Biden's legislative victories while remarkable in themselves, just don't seem to resonate when everything is so expensive. Whether that's good or bad, right or wrong, it just seems to be the case.
@rbreich Remember this happened under Obama, too? Remember people hated Obamacare but thought the ACA was a wonderful idea? People are uninformed. Always been this way. MSM fails in its job then actually writes about how people are uninformed.
@rbreich We have had many gains, however, for too many, increased prices for basic goods have diminished them, which is not really Joe's fault, but is perceived as such, and Media does not discourage their perception.

@rbreich the problem is that the "left" often frames legislation as being moralistically the right thing to do.

Meanwhile the right will frame everything as "for the economy", even when it's bullshit.

@rbreich For decades now, MSM has been convinced that the nation is center right, so that is where their interests lie. They will never give a Dem or Dem policies an equal break.
@rbreich Biden decided getting votes is more important than working climate change, Note: He sold out the Liberal Progressives for sound bites at Cop26. Biden helped sell the war in Iraq based on lies. Biden refuses to deal with obvious corruption in the opioid crises and DoD. Biden is better than MAGA/cultists
@rbreich I commented in another thread Biden lied about the War in Iraq. Biden refuses to deal with corporate malfeasance (fossil fuel industry, opioid crisis, manufactured food shortages, and on and on) He also is soft on the MAGA/cultists because he still thinks working with fascists is a good idea.

@rbreich

It's very simple. Americans are living shorter lives, their real wages are declining, and they're at the mercy of a merciless healthcare system. Homelessness is a few paychecks away for most. Americans, with great justification, now view their lives as fundamentally insecure.

You can make a list of Biden's achievements as long as your arm. But until this trend is dramatically reversed, Democrats will remain an untrusted ally.

@rbreich the squeaky wheels (i.e., MAGAts) get the grease. Stop giving them oxygen and coverage, always fact check them when you can’t, and don’t go crazy yourself.
