society: damn misinfo at scale is getting a bit out of hand lately. seems like a problem.

tech guys: i have invented a machine that generates misinformation. is that helpful?

Hooking up ChatGPT to Bing will only make me use it less (which is hard to do, since I only use DDG). But yeah, if anything, we need an AI version of Snopes to fact check its brethren.

DDG uses Bing under the hood. Not exclusively, I don't think, but it's there.

@pjohanneson @pcbeard @jacqueline @moviemorgz this page on DDG sources explains it:

https://help.duckduckgo.com/duckduckgo-help-pages/results/sources/

β€œβ€¦we have more traditional links and images in our search results too, which we largely source from Bing.”
β€œWhen we send a request to a partner for information used in search results, the transfer of information is proxied through our servers so it stays anonymous.”

Where do DuckDuckGo search results come from?

DuckDuckGo is an independent internet privacy company that offers a private alternative to Google search & Chrome in one free app.

@darins @pjohanneson @jacqueline @moviemorgz thanks for the heads up. DDG certainly packages these results in a way I find more digestible. I find both Bing and Edge really uncomfortable to use. But it will be interesting to see if ChatGPT becoming more tightly integrated with Bing affects DDG in a discernible way.
@pcbeard @darins @pjohanneson @jacqueline @[email protected] If DDG gets contaminated by Bing's ChatGPT toxic waste, I'll have to find a new search engine. I wonder if @Mojeek can guarantee never to pollute their results with AI?
@dheadshot @pcbeard @darins @pjohanneson @jacqueline @[email protected] everyone's doing it eh? We've got some big things on the horizon but there's nothing like that πŸ˜‰
