Tom Slee - Uber in Chicago

What open data from Chicago tells us about the Uber driver population.

Despite what the company says, the Uber ride hail has not recovered to pre-pandemic levels.
The loss of rush-hour trips is one reason why.

Most drivers are casual drivers.

BUT...

Full-time drivers provide about 40% of all trips. (They will be particularly important for low-volume times and places).
Most Uber drivers are new to the platform.
Most drivers quit pretty quickly (within the year) and churn remains high.
In short: there are many reasons why this driver population is vulnerable and dissatisfied. Particularly full-time drivers.
