@RichStein I had to Google commercial salamander myself. It's one of those ultra-fast broilers they use in restaurants.

For a while they rented out one of the units, but once they could afford it, one moved into the lower and the other stayed upstairs. They still basically lived together, but their decorating styles were so different (chintz/Victorian vs Southwest) that they preferred to lounge in their own spaces...
