So... Neil Young contracted polio as a child in the '50s.
He had to relearn how to walk, it left him permanently disabled and contributed to a serious anxiety disorder that he still deals with today.
He has epilepsy and so does his daughter.
He has 2 sons with cerebral palsy. The album TRANS was written as a way to communicate with one of them. He founded The Bridge School for kids with severe disabilities and still organizes annual benefit concerts for the school.
Neil Young understands post viral syndromes and disability better than most.
He understands public health and the importance of messaging, platforms and how they can be used to create good and to also cause harm.
In todays world, it's amazing to see someone with a huge platform use it to send such a loud and powerful message.
I have mad respect for this man and wanted to use my teeny tiny platform to shed light on some of the things that have shaped this good human who has provided the background music for so many of our lives ❤
@ktdoggett I can’t believe I didn’t know any of this!
@PortCityAnna
Understandable, he's so larger than life that his other attributes overshadow everything else.
@ktdoggett That's Joni Mitchell with him, surely.
@andrewplord
Looks like her.
They both Canadian
@ktdoggett wow. What a legacy.

@DebraMilazzoSha

When much younger, I learned most of his repertoire on guitar, and never thought much of it, considering his musical technique subpar compared to others.
Man, the ignorance of youth.
The man is a giant.

@ktdoggett I knew all this, but it's easy to forget it's not common knowledge. #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs
@ktdoggett wowww I didn't know any of this either. Just watched a documentary on him. Love his anti corporate stance too. A damn living legend

@ktdoggett

Now I'm feeling guilty for going back to Spotify after abandoning it in solidarity with Neil Young (and Joni Mitchell) over the Joe Rogan thing. I went back because I missed one of my fav podcasts & Spotify had made some (weak) gestures to rein in Rogan/ covid misinformation. Sigh.

@ktdoggett @macroliter From what I’ve heard, he’s a relatively private man. His private life is not paraded, so few know about this.

@lzvolk @macroliter

He doesn't do or say outrageous things, (unlike members of a certain faction I could name), so he stays pretty much under the public's radar.
