I'm intrigued by the #balloon that #China apparently sent over the US. The story I saw yesterday implied that this wasn't the first, just the first that became public. I'm curious why China is doing this. The US experimented with spy balloons in the 1950s, floating them over the #USSR, and the program wasn't a success, partly because they couldn't control flight paths. Is this one steerable and thus a dirigible? Using #GPS would solve another problem the US had back then. #intelligence 1/2
I wonder if having a #SIGINT package or a #MASINT package on the #balloon would be worthwhile for #China

Balloons "steer" by varying altitude according to winds. A helium high altitude balloon doesn't have a lot of options.
