Why would Musk want to shut down research into misinformation, abuse, and hate speech online?

I’m really not surprised yet it completely sucks 😠

Space Karen is really a marketing genius, isn't he?

@ct_bergstrom So, Twitter's attempt to make money is secretly an attempt to boost hate speech? That's really a stretch. I'm not saying it makes sense, just that this kind of "journalism" needs to die in a grease fire.
@Bradley_JF @ct_bergstrom Not so much an attempt to boost as to prevent exposure, especially of the boss himself and his brittle ego. And no, that's not exactly a well-kept secret.
@ct_bergstrom o well, guess we had that coming. Shit happens when a mad man is in control.

@ct_bergstrom … and also good for environment.

[sarcasm]

@ct_bergstrom I fairly sure it's less about overtly trying to boost hate speech and more about not being too happy when people contradict his narratives with cold hard facts derived from his company's own API.

By making it easier to be the single source/arbiter of truth regarding Twitter stats and trends, he can pretend much more easily that he's always right.

@ct_bergstrom I used my API to block right wing asshats and all their followers.

@ct_bergstrom hmm not a twitter shill, cause I do hate the place and closed sourcedness, but you guys know that paid api isn't a new concept right? Servers and people need money to keep up, and I think monetizing large API calls isn't evil at all, especially for a for profit company.

update: turns out this is evil & greedy (refer to image attached)

@ct_bergstrom I really can't think of a reason. πŸ€”
