When huge gas guzzling utes are no longer the best selling car in the country.
When people plan how to drive less.
When they don't idle unnecessarily outside schools or shops.
When boy racers stop going out 3 nights a week.

Then we can talk about petrol being too expensive.

Meanwhile, signs are that it is still too cheap.

We keep subsidising petrol so people don't need to change their behaviours.

But we really need everyone to change their behaviour! Fast!

Keeping fossil fuel artificially cheap is sacrificing our living planet for immediate convenience. Again.
We have learned nothing.

Precisely.
We are making things worse by incentivising people to drive even more.

Cheaper petrol only adds fuel to the fire.

@pezmico Interestingly (and anecdotal) since the fuel tax was reduced most people I know are driving less than they were prior to it being reduced. The reason being that while petrol is a little lower in price because of the reduced tax, the price of fuel is still way to high to be affordable.

We barely use one of our cars (V6 Maxima) now. It hasn't left our driveway for over 3 weeks. We use a < 1000cc vehicle instead.

@pezmico transitioning important. Since Auck floods Aotearoa finally waking up to #ClimateCrisis give it 2 months to percolate. Soon everyone will be an expert...
@pezmico Love it! Canada may want to invest more in public transit in general. You may also enjoy this Substack Newsletter ... https://rideon.substack.com/p/going-bigger
