Being a good human being
@jamesbfg a lot of people have lost that sense of community and doing things for one’s fellow man or a woman.

@jamesbfg I am taking, from the language used, that the original author is drawing a finer point; people who pay taxes for public healthcare are, in fact, better sexual partners (or at least 'decent' sexual partners).

I must agree. All possible interpretations are definitely correct.

Also the corollary: All selfish Fascists are dud roots. (Australianism for "very poor at intercourse")

@Heterokromia @jamesbfg ahem, very poor at sexual intercourse…
@jamesbfg
Ah, well, this is the US we're talking about, so the answer is probably racism
@jamesbfg
The Republican party and Murdoch Media really don't give a f**k if people live or die.
@jamesbfg For sure! Without socialised healthcare as we have in the UK your country is definitely more barbaric!

@jamesbfg @russellt The second-biggest problem is Americans pay up to 3X more for the same coverage as Canadians β€” and we have worse outcomes.

The biggest problem is that our most affordable form of healthcare is tied directly to employment. So if you lose your income, you’re forced to pay in extra with money you probably no longer have.

@scenario @jamesbfg @russellt and all justified because once in a blue moon some person gets access to world class medical treatment not available elsewhere that saves them. That's only possible because of the tens of millions being overcharged for procedures and treatment that is usually delivered at the last possible moment insurance can get away with delaying it to.

It's like having a nation where car maintenance is prohibited until your car has stopped on the freeway and caused a wreck.

@jamesbfg I'm an American and I get free health care (yes, Virginia, we exist!). I'm on Medicaid (which is for poor and disabled people), and I love not having to pay for meds or most of my healthcare needs. There are even dental needs of mine that are taken care of!

The only catch is that I have to have less than US$2000 in my bank account at all times...

@jamesbfg America is a terrorist state
@jamesbfg It’s nonsensical isn’t it?

@jamesbfg

I completely agree, except for the part where you accept the lie that Canadians pay more: most Americans pay at least as much in income tax, and then pay health care premiums and deductibles over and above that.

@jamesbfg

Amricans: Decency has nothing to do with it!

@jamesbfg

when polled, most Americans (including Republicans) support universal health care. Our problem is the corruption of our media and politicians.

@jamesbfg Americans are selfish. We've always been this way. Ask anyone.
@jamesbfg people in the US are fed constant propaganda about socialized medicine. Especially people consuming conservative news. I don’t think any normal person (other than rich ghouls) actually thinks β€œI just don’t want to pay for that child!” it’s that they legitimately believe the β€œdeath panel”-type bullshit
@jamesbfg apparently it robs them or their organized religion the ability to feel charitable by donating $20 to a GoFundMe for some sick person. Over 50% of which will go to corporate coffers to keep pharma, hospital, and charity execs comfortable in their private jets.
@jamesbfg We don’t pay extra. We benefit from collective bargaining in order to pay less.
@jamesbfg lol, sorry not funny but the same could be applied to anti-maskers... I've come to the conclusion that many people these days are just selfish pricks. 🀷
@jamesbfg It's not personal. It's just business.

@jamesbfg It’s really not altruism. People don’t get health insurance and say, β€œI don’t mind paying for the kidney operation of someone I don’t even know; in fact, it makes me feel good.” They say, β€œI could not afford health care without insurance!” It is so weird that once insurance becomes nationalized, some feel like other people taking advantage of the same healthcare they enjoy is somehow thanks to their own generosity and largess. And then they get to feeling taken advantage of.
