Dave Mackeyimho, the use of blanket characterizations for entire segments of humanity - whether these are made on the basis of ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, religion, or politics - is a net negative for humanity.
Unless those who differ from us are allowed to have nuance we dehumanize them, making them into straw men we can hate without guilt and whose opinion we can dismiss without consideration.
