30+ year publishing vet who now just looks on at the newspaper & magazine business and shakes his head in sadness. Oh well, it was a good run.
Still concerned that there is no good alternative to Twitter, even with the millions of bots and trolls in total control of the place. Bluesky appears to have already given up the ghost so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good first word, I guess.

5-4 ruling saves the last threads of the Voting Rights Act, for now. As usual, the far-right went too far, believing (because there was evidence they were right) that the SCOTUS would back them. That the ruling depends on Roberts and Kavanaugh shows how in danger our rights are.
Today's newspaper execs have no clue how to drive revenue, lurching from one model to another. If you want to drive advertising, you need ad execs who know how to do it. If you want to drive subscriptions you better market to readers. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2023-06-07/los-angeles-times-newsroom-layoffs-merida-soon-shiong
Los Angeles Times to cut 74 newsroom positions

The elimination of about 13% of the newsroom staff is the first major retrenchment since the paper was acquired five years ago by Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong and his wife, Michele.

Everything Trump touches dies. Why is this so hard a concept for people to understand? They always think they will be the exception. https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/07/media/chris-licht-cnn/index.html
Looks like Suzanne Scott is working hard to make sure someone other than herself is thrown under the bus for what Fox News was putting on air following the Nov. 22 election.

Good for the Justice Department, and the DC jury, for convicting the Proud Boys.

But women online have been warning you about these twisted armed incels for years.

Proud Boys, Stand Back and Stand in Prison

Good for the Justice Department. But women have been trying to warn you about incels since 2007.

Trump supporters have to believe some rather strange things in order to continue to be part of the cult. The whole Ray Epps thing is an example: how one guy could make hundreds into violent insurrectionists is anybody's guess. The Hunter Biden stuff is really rather sad, but I think he is a substitute for Hillary Clinton who they seem to have forgotten about for now.
Ted Lieu says Dems don't ask someone to resign the Senate over a case of shingles.
I like Ted, but he knows better: this isn't about shingles, it's about a Senator that people think has lost it, and in any case has been absent from DC for far too long.
