While the murder of Tyre Nichols “demands us to reflect on police brutality, as well as the systemic failures of policing, this also should be a point when we pause to look at America’s culture of violence and ask ourselves: Is there something that can be done to turn the tide?”

America, The Violent

Reflecting on brutality, trauma and the need for change

America, America
@StevenBeschloss
Unfortunately the answer is no, it's going to get a lot worse from here. We're fairly early into a so far cold civil war that won't end in my lifetime. The right would have NO problem murdering those that oppose it's views.
@StevenBeschloss Mass cult deprogramming is required. One might look at what was done in Germany post WW II to deprogram the Nazis there and to make it difficult for them to spread their ideology of hatred. Some of the necessary steps might seem harsh to those who believe everyone has the right to promote hatred no matter how extreme. The idea that that is OK needs to be extinguished but in a way that doesn’t harm the right of citizens to criticize the actions of authorities or institutions.
@StevenBeschloss But addressing the prevalence of violent, revenge culture is a more difficult issue. Most Americans are not even aware that it is a significant issue. It is more than just the availability of guns. First, people and institutions that promote violence (even by subtle means) must be heavily sanctioned. Secondly, education must take on the task of creating a new generation that recognizes social manipulation to violence for what it is and understands how it is accomplished.
@StevenBeschloss In essence, the social value that must be promoted and ingrained is consideration of others — basic manners — that other people are to be valued and appreciated and should be treated with respect, as opposed to being made into enemies and dehumanized. Who could reasonably object to that?
@StevenBeschloss Also, training many of our young citizens to kill in the name of their country, but not training them to not kill.

“Is there something that can be done to turn the tide?”

It is frustrating to see this question asked over and over and over again. It is indescribably frustrating when it’s used as a deflection device. Clearly, there are things that can be done. The pause point has passed.

The trajectory of police brutality has soared beyond human comprehension. There’s nothing left to reflect on. There is only--fully fund and implement the proposed solutions--repeatedly submitted by the leaders of communities most victimized by America’s culture of violence, which includes police brutality, and then—get the hell out of their way.

In the meantime, answer me this:

“Is there something that can be done to help journalists stop carrying corporate owned water used to hydrate White Supremacy culture and the institutions and corporations that uphold it?”

@StevenBeschloss defunding the various US police forces and introducing gun control in line with other countries would solve the problem, sure, if either of these things were possible in the theocratic oligarchy of the USA, but they’re not.
They are no more possible than suddenly changing the direction of the Supreme Court or fixing the electoral system.
There is only one way out: dissolve the union.
If the red states want to become fascist hellscapes, don’t try to save them. Cut them loose while you still can.
