Which, if any, JRPG do you think has eclipsed Chrono Trigger?
@vontheodore I don't see the deal with Chrono Trigger. Oftentimes it'll be praised as a "JRPG without all the bullshit" or similar. I don't think the bullshit of JRPGs is bullshit. It irks me that a game that seems to be praised for not doing what is part of the genre, is lauded as the best of the genre.
@takunomi I'm curious now, what do you consider the bullshit? Is it the way that the enemies are visible / no random battles in CT?

@vontheodore hmm. I don't want to take anyone's love of CT away from them. At the same time, the discourse of what makes a game good becomes muddy to me when a game I experience as fairly banal is always at the top of everyone's Top 20 Games.

The simple version is: idunno, story and characters aren't doing it for me. I don't have a problem with random encounters. JRPGs only require grinding if you're thick. A game can be 2 hours or 90 hours. Doesn't make either one bad.

@vontheodore man, just ignore me. I'm sure CT is fine.
