“Costco, a retail chain known for cavernous buildings full of stacked goods [and massive surface parking lots], is working on a deal in Los Angeles that would put apartments full of potential customers on top of a planned store.”

Like Vancouver’s #Costco.

This is a very big deal in most of North America and other nations where car-dependent box box #sprawl is still the norm.

@BrentToderian god I want to live there
@ilovecomputers @BrentToderian Imagine working there! "gotta go to work" literally walking down the stairs!
You'd have like literal 3 minute travel time

@oshy @BrentToderian @ilovecomputers

The only thing that could make this better is if the store was also 24 hours

@BrentToderian and i feel like the lack of car-dependency for that costco generally leads to smaller purchases, smaller lines, and a generally less stressful shopping experience compared to like the burnaby or richmond costcos
@BrentToderian And I thought strip malls were hideous…
@BrentToderian So, Peach Trees in Judge Dredd
@BrentToderian This is a cool idea, provided they also put apartments (or something useful) above the parking lot as well.
@BrentToderian Will the apartments have kitchens, or will the residents just go downstairs for free samples?
@BrentToderian how about shading the parking lots with solar panels, too? ;->
@BrentToderian
First thing that I thought of was oh no the apartments above the COSTCO store are going to be infested with cockroaches or worse. Yes it's strange but many years ago I owned a retail craft supply store located next to a restaurant and we were overrun with roaches. Ugh! Hard to forget.
@BrentToderian
Is this really living "on top of a store" or right in the middle of a store's parking area?
