My parents lived through the Polio epidemic & period when it was *endemic*, until it wasn't. Lots to unpack in comparing the two.
One thing standing out for me is we had the power to do something about it in ways their generation didn't.
Another is they had clear link betw polio-caused paralysis & polio, whereas we have decades of practice refusing to see diseases that look like Long COVID. That said "post-Polio syndrome" wasn't widely recognized until most who had it were dead.
@FeralRobots @plaguepoems I think a better comparison is tuberculosis, which is airborne.

@FeralRobots @plaguepoems Here's the article. It's a covid/TB comparison; it turns out that many of the measures taken against TB would be effective against covid, but people aren't nearly as afraid of covid.
