#TrainThePolice
first and foremost they need to understand THEY SERVE the people; they are not judge, jury & executioner. They are not tin gods. They are SERVANTS.
Murder charges and incarceration are the only options in the #TyreNichols obscenity. No more cover-ups. Flush-out the fascists.
Increase funding on #InternalAffairs.
Decrease the practice of hiring thugs.
@CharmingMalcontent there is no training solution
@Pachacutec any suggestions then?
Psychological profiling perhaps?
Or do we just give up?
@CharmingMalcontent state sponsored armed and unaccountable street gangs do not reduce social harm. They create and exacerbate it. Spending on social services, housing, counseling, economic justice, literacy, addiction treatment all reduce social harm. Think about systems not symptoms. #DefundThePolice #TyreNichols
@CharmingMalcontent policing was founded in US as slave patrols. The role and function of policing in the US is not public service or protecting the public, it is to serve and protect property, capital, in the service of a social and economic system that is white supremacist. There is no public outcry about the crimes, lethal harm, done by corporations. In US mythology, “crime” = “urban” = black. That’s cultural conditioning and an intentional lie. #DefundThePolice #TyreNichols
@Pachacutec @CharmingMalcontent a lot of truth to that, but we really do need good police officers (or at least in America) because there is a lot of heavy crime (especially where I live). The redistribution of money in police funding working to ensure that the officers are getting training on specifically handle situations in non life-threatening situation could maybe help with the corruption and crack down on violent hungry officers from being accepted.

@crocadino @CharmingMalcontent People trained to soothe conflicts are not people who carry guns. Fund and send out those people in first response. Take the money from police budgets (that's #defundthepolice) Cops don't need to be outfitted with military gear.

Countries who do this have less "crime." Cops do not reduce "crime." They manufacture it. And they themselves manufacture violence and harm directed at the poor and people of color.

@crocadino @CharmingMalcontent they manufacture and target that harm to those communities, not as an aberration, but as their core systemic mission. That's the reality. The whole system of policing is violence, harm and oppression. #defundthepolice #TyreNichols
@Pachacutec @CharmingMalcontent yeah, no I know some 12 year old raped in Utah, we need police. But I agree we need to change it systemically because this is an systemic ingrained problem. I just don't believe the idea of police is to oppress people, or the very least doesn't have to be.
@crocadino @CharmingMalcontent I have experience working with sexual assault victims. Police don’t prevent sexual assault. Defunding police does not mean eliminating laws.
@Pachacutec @CharmingMalcontent but you need people to search and/or apprehend the criminal, especially if they're potentially dangerous
@crocadino @CharmingMalcontent None of the standard policing reforms reduce police violence. To do that, we need to drastically reduce police-civilian interactions.
