Looking back, I'm rather disappointed with myself for the amount of time and effort I've spent (both online and in person) trying to convince white supremacists to see and care about police brutality and racism.

It is an utter waste of time with an approximately 0% success rate.

Only through taking action in combination with other people who care about those issues can we fix things.

💯 💯 💯
I have done same thing for years. I am also done. And my mental health is improving as a result.
@PeggyJoan That is a benefit I also appreciate!
@eric I know. Just trying to have a conversation with my brother and brother in law about BLM protests they had their mind made up to hate anyone who defy the police. Media falsely reporting events and rarely correcting the mistakes doesn't help. Treating police brutality as immoral an unjust and as something revolting to society has been the only way to make movement in the argument and that still isn't enough.

@Sh4d0w_H34rt Indeed!

And if it helps, I've put together a list of some of those anti-BLM claims that later turned out to be untrue: https://blog.ericpuryear.com/2020/06/22/white-supremacists-falsely-accuse-black-lives-matters-protesters-of-violence/

White Supremacists and related people falsely Accuse Black Lives Matters protesters and other minorities of violence - Eric Puryear's Blog

People who are opposed to civil rights progress have a long history of trying to smear civil rights groups and their organizers. That was true for Dr. Martin Luther King and it remains true today with Black Lives Matter. The following examples illustrate that point, and show how BLM and minorities are being falsely blamed,...

Wow, well organized and powerful information! Thank you.

If only our media would pull together the pieces half as well as you've done.

@eric

Much respect for your decision, makes sense. It's wise to be efficient with your energy and take care of your mental health.

But I don't think that your past effort is something to regret. You grounded and refined your ideas by expressing them.

You also planted seeds. Very few people actually change their mind in public. But it's possible, after you parted ways, that you added the necessary pieces for someone to put together a new and better way of thinking.

Thanks for your posts.

@eric
White supremacists have an invested interest in disseminating hate/racism to uphold white privilege & maintain their feeling of superiority. Most will only change if they see some benefit for themselves. However, there're cases where some ppl. have been successful in changing ppl. views, for whatever reason.
There's still the need to inspire many who care but fail to take action to bring about real change.
I'm constantly seeking ways to convince ppl. it's in the interest of the majority
@eric You shouldn't be disappointed. Those conversations were never going to be for their benefit. But they create a public dialog that reaches out into communities. Those fights sharpen the weapons that cut deepest. I am always amazed that it's the small battles that ignite large movements. Someone taking a stand. Sitting at a counter. Walking in a school. Marrying the person you love. Probably we get knocked down over and over, but that one time...
