Our country has an obsession with viewing and sharing trauma videos instead of taking a moment to consider what we’re going to do about this system.

@thebrettina I watch these things to remind myself that my being and the spirit which dwells within it can be easily torn asunder by dark forces I cannot control. To live your life as best as you can because tomorrow is NEVER Guaranteed

@FalconFive No offense, but I just don’t believe in making someone’s death, especially an injustice death, a thankful moment.

That’s like folks who go on a mission trip and come back like, “oh, Im so thankful for what I have.”

I could never look at one of these videos and feel thankful that I’m alive… that just feels really weird, too many especially when it’s my people being murdered. I’m just confused to how that would be a first thought?

@thebrettina
True that the outrage is not translated into effective change often enough, however the videos and evidence are needed to inform the public of the severity of the problem.

@inklings Black folks already understand the severity and live it every day, so I don't think we’ll see it the same way you will.

You can read a book to understand the severity of the continued abuse from our system of black, ipoc, and folks in a lower class bracket.

Studying needs to become relevant again.

@thebrettina
If the audience was only black people, perhaps it wouldn’t be necessary. But that’s not the society we live in.

If there had been no video of Derek Chauvin, would he have been convicted ? Or even arrested?

Same with this case. The police would simply lie about what transpired.

Same principle was at work when emmet till’s mother insisted on an open casket … to show the world the truth.

@inklings Like I essentially said: black, ipoc, and certain income braket. So where did you read only black in my full statement?

Also, where did I ever state that we should have NO video? I said we shouldn't be SHARING traumatic imagery all over the internet.

Till and his family actually helps support my point. The public outrage after his mother showed the world died down and we live in the same system. The woman who got him murdered lived a full and care free life.

@thebrettina

Emmet Till’s mothers’ decision is credited by many as providing fuel to civil rights protests and gains in the 1960’s.

And cmon — we both know the topic is sharing videos (pics) with the public ie on the internet.

How Emmett Till's Mother Galvanized the Civil Rights Movement

@thebrettina We live in an age where purience, cruelty and fear of the other are celebrated…I don’t understand why this is so. This only leads one way-to our destruction. I try to be mindful, helpful to all. I wish for patience and tolerance. It is painful to see the actions of the police to not protect but to cause death. All this horror does little to improve trust in others and the downward spiral this causes rips our society apart How to heal? How to trust? How to move forward?
