Next month is #BlackHistoryMonth - created in 1926 to recognize the contributions of #AfricanAmericans to U.S. history. #Canada & #Germany now celebrate this in Feb. along with the #US But #Ireland ,the #Netherlands & the #UK in Oct.
Do #history months have a lasting impact? Do they move all #POC & some "white" ppl. to truelly refllect & change or are many mainly concerned with their own campaigns of recognition?

@Maggie It did have a lasting impact on me: I believe #BlackHistoryMonth made me aware that I wasn’t having a diverse reading experience (I started focusing on english books in the last 3 or 4 years). So as I was reaching my goals on #Goodreads’ Reading Challenge for the past 2 years, I’ve decided to read more #BlackAuthors and started with an Amazon’s original series called “Black Stars”, which I loved it! More authors came and my new commitment for 2023 is to read more #BlackFemaleAuthors. 🙂

I'm also constantly seeking to learn more re. the history of diverse ppl. which isn't just fascinating but important & inspires one to be more active, so I'm really glad to hear about your experience; because I know, there're many who aren't interested in learning/changing things if their own lives aren't affected.
In addition, it’s probably sometimes easier bc my first language is English, so it's also nice to know that you don't allow the language barrier to limit you
