Tried the new #CrossBorderBus 231 #Rastatt, #BadenWürttemberg 🇩🇪 - #Soufflenheim, #Alsace 🇫🇷 today.

The bus route has a good timetable (see next toot), but unfortunately no one apart from us was on it cross-border or in France (but I guess a cold Thursday isn't the best day for most people)

The 231 runs hourly on weekdays and every two hours on weekends, with some extra journeys to the #MercedesBenz plant in #Rastatt for workers. Compared to the French regional bus 330 to #Haguenau, which at most runs eight times a day, it's much better.

But unfortunately, the route is very winding and slow (why does the bus serve Rastatt-Gartenstadt? it's such a detour) and weirdly the big shopping centre in #Roppenheim is only served a few times a day for their employees, but otherwise the bus skips it.

I do like that there's quite some advertising though, in Soufflenheim there were banners, as well as flyers in shops, and the "#Regiomove" mobility hub at Rastatt station also showed some ads

On the way back, we took a #TERFluo train from #Rountzenheim to #Lauterbourg, but unfortunately, this #CrossBorderRail trip turned into a #CrossBorderBus as well, as the Lauterbourg-#Wörth route is currently replaced by buses, I guess due to lack of staff as well as implementing the interface between the new Wörth signal box and the French signal box.

At least the bus stops next to the railway station in Lauterbourg, but it does take double the time as the train (and noone was on that bus cross-border either)

@jon 😆 as we were talking about earlier today
@simonschre > TERFluo

mildly unfortunate designation :))
@pony I mean it's TER Fluo, just like this for the hashtag 😅
@simonschre I'm having flashbacks to bus Y in the Geneva suburbs. Most of the time I just walked across the border to catch the tram.
@simonschre did you see by chance if the mechanical signals were still present in Lauterbourg?
@coreice I didn't pay close attention to them, but in my pictures I see they are still there yes
@simonschre cool! Hope they survive the transitioning.
@coreice Not for long though I think. In 2026/27 the line Lauterbourg-Bischheim will be closed for renovation, I presume those would then be replaced
