I'm a couple of months into switching to a #Brother color LaserJet #printer and I'm still overall happy with it. I don't remember the last time I was happy with a printer. The out of box #Linux / #Android support for it has been perfect. The only thing I would change is that I do miss having an ADF, which I didn't realize this one didn't have until I had already set it up. In hindsight, I would have paid more for one that includes that.
@vwbusguy I've had mine for about 6 years now, and it has been amazing, Mine also duplex prints which is a nice feature to have.
@vwbusguy Oh and I used to be 100% HP when it came to printers (I was a HP Printer Tech in the 90s) but buying this brother printer was a wise choice.
@fratm Yup, this has duplex. My last printer was an HP and that was an upgrade from the previous Epson in terms of print quality and reliability. The Brother is likewise a significant improvement over the HP, but with significantly less ink cost. I wouldn't say that I'm actually printing more, but I'm definitely not tracking the page counts like I was with the HP.
@vwbusguy Yeah, another thing is toner doesn't expire like ink does. I refuse to pay the ink tax anymore.
@vwbusguy after a while, I'm really happy with EcoTank Epson. It's extremely efficient - for more than one year, I still use ink from original bottles (like 60 percent used) and I still have 1/3 of the ink in the bottles!!! My wife uses it a lot, it's 6 inks printer, so photos are amazing and up to A3+. Compared to my old Samsung color laser printer it prints practically for free.
@vwbusguy Hi. I'm unexpectedly in the market for a home printer (HP inkjet capped out). Would love to hear more about the state of technology and what works. Don't use it a ton, but am dying for something that just...works, for a change. Any insight you can offer??
@jeffreynye If you don't use it often and want something that just works, I definitely recommend getting a Laser printer. Infrequent use is hard on ink jets and frequent use of them is harder on the wallet. A laser printer is not investment up front but it pays for itself quickly in ink and maintenance.
@vwbusguy thanks! Any guidance on a model? You have a Brother? We want something that will print double-sided, with color, from phones and laptops. Scanner nice but maybe not make or break. (Sorry, I know I shouldn't saddle you with my ignorance. Just feels impossible to find any actually reliable info anywhere.)

@jeffreynye This is the one I have and I'm happy with it so far

@jeffreynye With the caveat that I am not an expert on all the different printers available. I will say that the one and only thing I wish was different about mine if I wish I had paid a bit more and gotten a model with an ADF feed scanner. Otherwise, this one checks all of my boxes. The print quality is excellent and it all works nicely out of box with Fedora.
