I check #Twitter daily, but have not posted there in over a month at least. This morning I found myself logged out for no obvious reason. No problem getting back in, but still perhaps worth noting.
@lauren Here’s an idea, just don’t log back in. I never did, and I really don’t miss it!
@bryanb Twitter is still immensely important and influential. You can play ostrich if you like. I don't do that.

@lauren

I'm pretty sure that what you experienced is expected behaviour.

You need to login every 30 days, otherwise, at some point, your twitter account can be killed off or taken over. At least, that is my understanding.

There are people here on Mastodon, that have deleted all of their posts on twitter, but still periodically login to twitter to prevent issues.

@SpaceLifeForm No, that is incorrect. While there has been *talk* about inactivity deletions re Twitter, I'm pretty sure nothing like that has been implemented. Nor do I believe that any new login requirements have been implemented -- I've routinely just stayed logged in through various clients for many months at a time. Occasionally a cookie gets burned or something and I have to login again. Anyone who actually deletes their Twitter account is vulnerable to it being reissued, but not if only locked (as in my case). As per the currently known situation, anyway.

@lauren

Right. As I said, I am not sure either.

But, there have been many that were wary.

And one reason that Twitter would change the behaviour, is to HODL.

@lauren A lot of the people I follow over on Twitter aren’t (or maybe can’t) post the other sites they might have migrated to. Which removes one of my few remaining motivations to check in over there periodically.
