Ivory is on the app store 🎉 Sadly it doesn't seem to work with my Pleroma instance, same with @icecubesapp. Not at all unexpected—makes sense to focus on the most common instance type. I'm wondering whether it might be time to just run Mastodon, perhaps even delegating that to https://masto.host/ 🤔

Masto.host - Fully Managed Mastodon Hosting

Masto.host was built from the ground up to make running a Mastodon instance easy.

@wezm @[email protected] @hugo uh. I know this is not what you're asking and I'm sorry to loop you into an ideological-sounding discussion about protocols (which is cliche masto bs by now I assume lol) BUT..

as far as I'm concerned, there is *no reason* to build social clients on ActivityPub that *don't fully support ActivityPub*.

I understand that's very charged and backwards-sounding, but seriously... once y'all feel a little safer about making a living again, you need to come back to this ASAP.

@DavidBlue Yes I understand, and you are right. However, there's only so many energy I can expend on issues like this. For me, running Pleroma is becoming a chore. I'm at the point where I'd just like to be able to use a nice UI on my phone and not have to worry about hosting concerns.
@wezm what you’ve described is exactly why I migrated my Pleroma account (@uoya) to Mastodon 💯

@[email protected] thanks! A few things changed my mind: 1. I've deprioritised general maintenance of my Kubernetes cluster, because it's like a second job. I'm not as excited about it anymore. 2. Cost. DigitalOcean charges an arm and a leg for a small cluster and a Postgres database. It's more cost effective to pay @[email protected]. 3. FOMO. Mastodon's first party app is _really_ nice, but it doesn't play well with Pleroma. Posts render most of the time, but images are totally broken.

Melbourne Mastodon

@wezm I’ve been using masto.host for the last 3 years with no issues, I recommend it.

In my experience, Pleroma is easy to run (low maintenance) but Mastodon is not.

Caveat: I attempted to run Mastodon in ~2016 but I’ve been running Pleroma since ~2019, so I might just have recency bias..
